Another draw with Berwick
Monday, 6 April 2009

Southern Suburbs continued their recent record of drawing matches with Berwick City. This is the 4th draw in a row between the 2 sides.

Southern Suburbs went into the game with new signing Andrew Strepelias and it was infact Strepelias that opened the scoring at the 20 min mark firing a shot into the roof of the net following a low cross from Tele Cosentino.

Southern Suburbs joy was short loved when and awkwardly bouncing ball in defence was pounced on by Berwick and while the initial shot was well saved by South Keeper Bill Vasilopoulos, Berwick striker Nick Papadopoulos was on hand to "toe poke" the ball into the empty net.

The second half produced few chances with Nick Rossios hitting the crossbar from a corner while at the other end Vasilopoulos made a great one on one save to deny Berwick. With 5 mins to go Strepelias broke through the Berwick defensive lines and his powerful cross was almost bundled into the net however, Berwick then counter attacked and Nick Papadopoulos found himself with only the keeper to beat however he shot over the crossbar. In the end a fair result with the game played in the usual competitive spirit we have come to expect from SS v Berwick encounters.

The Reserves conceded a late goal to draw 2-2 with George Achilleos and Tas Tzimos on the scoresheet for Southern Suburbs.
