Seniors secure well deserved 2-0 victory.

On Saturday the senior team put in another impressive performance however on this occasion were rewarded with the 3 points. South recorded a 2-0 victory over Peninsula Strikers with goals in each half.

Southern Suburbs began the game strongly and created the first good chance of the game when a Michael Parisotto cross found Greg Giannakopoulos whose angled header came of the post. SS didn't have too wait too long to open the scoring when Andrew Strepelias held up the ball in the penalty area and then turn his man to play the ball into the path of Greg Giannakopoulos to side foot home and give SS a 1-0 lead. Soon after a well hit free kick by Giannakopoulos assisted by the strong breeze alluded everyone and almost bounced into the top corner. Late into the first half Andrew Strepelias was put through on goal however his shot was well saved by the keeper. Peninsula then had a chance straight after where Nick Yosifides was forced to clear off the line to maintain the 1-0 lead at the break.

Southern Suburbs came out after the break and immediately stepped up the pressure and were rewarded with a 2nd goal 15 minutes in Andrew Strepelias bustled his way past 2 defenders into the box with the ball finding Tas Tzimos who showed compusure to steer the ball past the keeper from 6 yards out and make it 2-0. With the two goal cushion Southern was able to control the tempo and defended solidly restricting Peninsula to a couple of half chances only.

The win was the first of the season following 3 consecutive draws and moves Southern up to 3rd place in a very tight table.

The Reserve team was beaten 2-0 and unable to capitalise on its chances created.
