Local derby ends in a draw.
Tuesday, 26 May 2009

Southern Suburbs would have been disappointed to not pick up the 3 points on Saturday. The result leaves SS undefeated and in second place although with the visitors reduced to 10 men for most of the second half an opportunity was lost.

Greg Giannakopoulos was lively from the start and went close 3 times in the opening 20 minutes with one shot cleared off the line whilst at the other end it was Panos Nickas coming to the rescue of SS by clearing off the line also.

The second half saw WW awarded what looked like a soft penalty in the 55th minute with Robbie Nicovski's attempted clearance skewing onto his arm and the referee pointing to the spot. Sinan Aydogan converted the spot hick to give WW a 1-0 lead. It was a lead that did not last long with SS hitting back on 60 minutes when Greg Giannakopoulos got behind the defence and his cut back from the by-line was deflected into the goal to bring SS level. Soon after Colin Rodopoulos had a chance to grab a goal but saw his header go just over. Despite the numerical advantage SS could not find the winner with game finishing 1-1.

The Reserves won the early game 2-1 despite conceding a very late consolation goal.
