Southern Suburbs down Croydon 2-1
Tuesday, 14 July 2009

Southern Suburbs played their first game of the season at the Grange and began with a win to stay one point behind Berwick City in 2nd place.

The first half while entertaining was one of few chances with the best chance falling to Southern's Colin Rodopoulos whose back post volley went just over the crossbar.

In the second half SS began to create more chances with Strepelias and Nicovski almost opening the scoring. In the 57th minute however SS did score when a well hit shot from Andrew Strepelias was parried by the keeper into the path of Robbie Nicovski to tap into the net. The second goal came in the 87th minute when Chris Hoodless made a run through the middle and from almost 30 meters unleashed a powerful strike that gave the keeper no chance. Unfortunately SS conceded a late consolation goal in the 91st minute to make the final score 2-1 to SS.

The Reserves won 2-1 after going a goal down in the first half. The equaliser was scored by Kosta Kariotoglos following a great cross from George Tountas while the winning goal was scored by George Tountas who chipped the keeper.

Next week Southern Suburbs face Peninsula Strikers away.
