Cleeland Utd too strong for the SS Thirds.
Thursday, 16 July 2009
With the Thirds again being short of numbers, thankfully Kosta and Arthur rallied to the cause and enabled the team to field a full complement of players in a difficult encounter against a highly skilful and quick Cleeland Utd.
SS started well and Cleeland only began to find their feet after the quarter hour mark. Cleeland took the lead after 20 minutes when a puzzling refereeing decision enabled them to score from the penalty spot.
Soon after, they made it 2-0 after a defensive error and just before half time, they made it 3-0 when the SS defence failed to clear the ball from their penalty area.
The second half saw a more attacking display from SS and some great work on the right by John Marapas providing a great cross to George Lia who made no mistake with his header. A glimmer of hope for the home side was snuffed out by Cleeland Utd minutes later when they made it 4-1 with a one on one with the keeper.
Although SS had a number of chances to provide some respectability to the scoreline, Cleeland were able to score another, they had another penalty well saved by the SS keeper and missed a number of other chances.
A comprehensive victory to the visitors and although only 4th on the ladder before today’s game, they are clearly the best side we have faced this year.
