An entertaining stalemate at the Grange
Wednesday, 29 July 2009
On Saturday Southern Suburbs and Noble Park player out a high quality and entertaining stalemate with neither side able to grab a winner.
Noble Park came into the game as the "form" team of the competition undefeated in their last 7 starts that included 6 wins. Southern Suburbs also began the game with confidence and self belief.
The first half was fairly even affair with Noble Park probably having a small advantage overall. Keeper Billy Vasilopouos made a couple of good saves for SS.
The second half was a different affair with Southern Suburbs controlling the midfield and making most of the running with Noble Park relying on the odd counter attack. The SS defence however was looking assured and untroubled for most of the game. SS came close early on with Strepelias just shooting wide. NP keeper Pajic then made a great save of a Strepelias shot diving low to his right with the rebound almost put away by Rossios. Substitutes Martin and Josifovski provided a lot of run late in the game. With less then 5 minutes to go SS almost won it when a pin point cross found Strepelias in the box and his header went agonisingly wide of the upright. Deep into injury time at the other end Noble Park received a free kick on the edge of the box and the well hit shot was headed clear by Rodopoulos almost on the goal line. Despite the 0-0 draw all the SS supporters were very happy with the effort and performance from all their players and look forward with confidence to the remaining games.
The Reserves had a good 5-2 win with Steve Patsias grabbing a hatrick while George Tountas scored 2 goals.
This Saturday the game is against Sandringham City away and will again prove to be a difficult game with Sandringham the big improver in recent weeks.
