Gutsy win for Seniors as they go equal top
Sunday, 2 August 2009

The Senior team showed great character to fight for the 3 points on Saturday against a Sandringham team that on recent form was much better than 12th place.

The game was played on another cold and windy day but this time the pitch was very poor and did not suit the SS style of play. The winner would be determined by the team that wanted it more and was prepared to work for the result. That team was Southern Suburbs as they recorded a tough 1-0 win over Sandringham with Alex Josifovski grabbing his first goal for the club in the 68th minute. Sandy proved to be a tough and physical opponent which their 5 yellows cards on the day compared to none for SS would indicate, however this did not distract the resolve of the SS team.

Once again the defence was held firm while at the other end there was plenty of run up front from Josifovski, Martin, Giannakopoulos and Tzoumanekas.

The Reserves unfortunately suffered their heaviest defeat of the season going down 7-0. Despite the Sandy team being on top of the ladder SS had enough good players on the park to have achieved a far better result.
