Another draw for the Seniors.
Tuesday, 11 August 2009

On Saturday Southern Suburbs met their old rival Brandon Park in another crucial game. Southern Suburbs were very keen to atone for the poor performance in the first game this season at Brandon Park. This time round Southern Suburbs did everything but score a goal. It was a commanding performance by the team especially in the second half when it was all one way traffic.

The best chance of the first half fell to Chris Hoodless who was put through for a clear "one on one" chance with the keeper however his shot just rolled wide of the post. The second half saw SS create more chances with Ross Martin shooting just millimetres wide mid way through. With Brandon Park pinned in their defensive half and SS in control it looked to just be a matter of time. With 15 minutes to go SS received their first red card of the season and disappointingly another 2 were to follow in the dying stages. Despite this body blow SS were still pushing for a winning goal which unfortunately didn't eventuate. The game finished 0-0 for the 2nd time this season.

Despite the disappointment after the game the draw moved SS back up to the top again after both Noble Park and Berwick City lost. This was short lived as on Monday Berwick City received the points from the game they lost 2-1 to peninsula Strikers when it was found that Peninsula played a suspended player. This moved SS back into 2nd spot however our destiny still in our hands and the club, coaches and players remain confident.

In the early game the Reserves fought hard and in the end went down 3-2 after conceeding a late goal.
