Girls win 3rd game in a row.
Monday, 17 August 2009
Following on from last week's 3-1 home win over Mornington the SS girls have now won their 3rd successive game in a row downing Mooroolbark 2-1 away. It was the first time ever that the SS girls had won at Mooroolbark’s ground.
The game began in blizzard like conditions and it was SS that started off the stronger. Their hard work paid off when a neat through ball from the midfield found striker Tina Moutafis who ran into space and calmly slotted the ball to make it 1-0. The home team pressed for the equaliser and found it in the 30min as they caught the SS defence napping, breaking through to level it at 1-1.
After the break SS were determined to get all 3 points and in doing so were able to once again expose the home team’s defence line as striker Katherine Finlay dribbled her way past and made her way into the 18 yard box drilling a low shot into the far corner making the score 2-1. The home team then put the SS girls under pressure in the latter stages however they were able to hold firm and grind out a much needed victory, lifting them off the bottom of the ladder for the first time this season. Well done to the girls for a superb and hard fought effort as they inch closer to survival.
