Seniors back on top
Monday, 24 August 2009

The Southern Suburbs Senior team has moved back to the top of the State 3 ladder following a 2-0 win over Boroondara Eagles. The result stretches Southern's unbeaten run to 7 games.

While Southern welcomed back Josifovski & Patsias from suspension they were still without 4 first team players however this did not seem to worry the team as they started the game brightly. Southern opened the scoring after only 15 minutes when a cross from Josifovski found Strepelias and while his shot came off the crossbar the rebound was duly put away by Ross Martin.

It took until the 75th minutes for Southern to seal the game when Strepelias was put through on goal however his shot was saved and the ball spilled to Giannakopoulos who after a few touches managed to back heal the ball to Strepelias to slot home and make the game safe. Despite the win it was a poor 2nd half performance from the boys and the dissapointment of the players in their own performance was evident after the game, but as was the steely resolve in the players to finish the job off in the remaining games.

In the early game the Reserves went down 2-0.
