The season that was!

The 30th Anniversary year of the club was a season that saw Southern Suburbs entrenched in the top 2 positions from round 5 onwards but most importantly in the top 2 at the end of round 22.

To ensure promotion SS had won their last 3 matches on the trot and stood up when it counted. They stood up again by only conceding 1 goal in their final 7 matches to finish the season with only 15 goals conceded (the best in all leagues except for 1 team in Prov 3 NW). A fantastic effort by the defence led by keeper Bill Vasilopoulos who had a stellar season and a back four mostly comprised of Nick Yosifidis, Panos Nickas, Michael Parisotto & Colin Rodopoulos also supported by Tas Tzimos, George Tountas and George Karagiannis on occasions. A fantastic achievement they can all be proud of.

The team also began the season with a run of 10 undefeated games and finished the season off with a run of 9 undefeated games. Also crucial at the other end were the 10 goals of Andrew Strepelias who also scored in each of the last 3 games to help the club win promotion.

While Strepelias was scoring the crucial goals it was the midfield of Captain Nick Rossios, Con Tzoumanekas, Greg Giannakopoulos, Chris Hoodless, Robbie Nicovski, Ross Martin, Tellis Cosentino, Tas Tzimos, George Tountas, Alex Josifovski, George Karagiannis and Steve Patsias that were the engine room of the club as well as supplying the forwards. Multiple midfield goals were also scored by Giannakopoulos (3), Tzimos (3), Martin (2), Nicovski (2) and Cosentino (2) while fullback Michael Parisotto also chimed in with 2 goals.

The players, coaches and club also showed great character when on two separate occasions during the season they were knocked off top position on the ladder mid week following tribunal decisions awarding results to its rival Berwick City. While this was no fault of Berwick's it certainly made things more challenging for SS but certainly not insurmountable.

All in all a fantastic season by all concerned and one which has brought great joy and happiness to all supporters, committee and friends of the Southern Suburbs Pythagoras family. Congratulations to the Senior coach Arthur Georgiou for his commitment, dedication, planning and application and also to his coaching team of Tomas Kovar, Nick Tsiaras & Ivan Assenza as well as the team managers Con Ditsi and Karl Froehlich for all their hard work.
